Willamette Valley AVA Regions

Willamette Valley AVA Regions

The Willamette Valley is home to several distinct growing regions—most commonly called American Viticultural Areas (AVAs). Each of these regions boast unique characteristics—whether due to climate, soil content, or other factors—that impart different flavors on the grapes grown in that area. So that’s why a pinot noir produced in the sediment-rich Chehalem Mountains AVA, for instance, may taste different than a pinot noir produced in the cooler, milder Van Duzer Corridor AVA.

So with the Willamette Valley AVA covering our entire region—and eleven smaller AVAs nested within the Willamette Valley—we wanted to introduce you to our unique wine-growing areas. Tasting of six wines.

Deep Dive: Wine Regions of Mendoza, Argentina

Deep Dive: Wine Regions of Mendoza, Argentina

Mendoza is a large province (nearly the size of Illinois) located in central-western Argentina. The massive Andes Mountains create a dramatic skyline in the west and also play an important role in Mendoza's wines.

The Andes act as a rain shadow, stopping wet Pacific Ocean weather from the Argentine highlands. It makes Argentina one of the sunniest and driest wine-growing regions with less than 9 inches of rain per year. (As dry as the Gobi Desert!)

Fortunately, ample snowmelt from the Andes irrigates the vineyards, making it possible to produce wine. Explore specific regions in Mendoza including Maipú Luján de Cuyo, Uco Valley and San Rafael. Tasting of six wines.
